We framed and executed a financing strategy to secure funding from Venture Capitalists

 

The challenge

Our New York based client had an innovative Digital Media idea but limited exposure to capital raising or venture capital environment. They needed a financing strategy to that would help them understand their financing needs, provide a road map to financial close and set-up their finance function.  


How we helped?

IPFinancials worked with two co-founders to devise their Finance strategy and was engaged to deliver the following:

  • An integrated financial model to reflect the underlying business model in a detailed three-year set of financial projections fully integrated income statement, cash flow and balance sheet. 

  • Our model facilitated the analysis of multitude of scenarios and the impact that changes to key drivers would have on the amount of capital needed, break-even point, timing of when the business would turn cash flow positive and profitable. 

  • Additionally, it was used to determine the fair value of the business, assess term sheets and negotiate the financing contract. 

  • A unique aspect of this assignment was the application of real options analysis to identify what options were embedded in this venture. This helped investors and management understand the key milestones to meet and trigger points that could help change the course of the business.

  • Post funding, IPFinancials were retained to set-up their finance function. 


Value delivered

Client successfully raised its desired level of funding from a Tier-One venture capitalist. Set-up the finance function and then transitioned the role to a full-time Finance Manager within six months. The financial model was then used as a basis for developing the operational budget in the post funding environment. IPFinancials were retained over the next four years for additional ad hoc finance advisory and capital raising rounds.
